How to Apply Vinyl Stickers DAM GOOD! (No Bubbles or Peeling!)

You've stumbled across my shop and finally found the perfect sticker. The last thing you want is for it to end up peeling at the corners or stuck with a giant air bubble right in the center. Luckily for you, applying vinyl stickers correctly takes only a couple extra seconds, and it really does make all the difference.

There's how to do it the dam good way.

What You Need

• Your sticker of choice
• A clean, dry surface
• Rubbing alcohol or a damp cloth
• Credit card (optional)

Step 1: Cleaning Your Surface

This is the easiest step most people will skip, and it might be the most important one. Dust, oil from your hands, and residue from other stickers can all prevent your sticker from properly bonding to the surface.

No matter the surface you are applying to (laptop, water bottle, etc.), always wipe it down with either rubbing alcohol or a damp cloth. Make sure to let it dry completely before moving on!

(Also avoid applying stickers soon after applying lotion or suncreen, as the oils can kill sticker adhesion!)

Step 2: Peel Slowly From Corner

I know you're excited to get this art on display, but don't rush to peel! Start at one corner and pull the backing away slowly at a low angle (not straight up). This keeps the sticker flat and prevents it from curling or folding onto itself.

Step 3: Position Before Commitment

Hold the sticker over your surface and eyeball the placement before it touches to make sure it is in your ideal spot! While vinyl stickers are removable, the adhesion is meant as a one time use and won't hold as strong the second attempt. 

Step 4: Apply from Center Out

Apply the center of your sticker down first, then smooth outward towards the edges using your finger or a credit card. This will push any air out of the sides instead of trapping it in the middle.

Do not just pat it down lightly, apply firm pressure for a couple of seconds for best adhesion.

How to Fix an Air Bubble

Already got a bubble? Don't panic. Use a pin or needle to poke a tiny hole at the edge of the bubble, then press the air out with your fingernail. The hole will be nearly invisible.

How Long Will a Vinyl Sticker Last?

A properly applied vinyl sticker on a clean surface can last 3–5 years outdoors and even longer indoors.

While all Sticker Dam vinyl stickers are dishwasher-safe, hand washing water bottles will extend the sticker life significantly
